Bantam A team wins NJYHL Playoffs

Ducks Bantam Minor Crowned Champions

Wayne, NJ:  The Protec Ducks 07 Bantam Minor team has had a tremendous amount of playoff success since their first year in squirts.  Playing for the NJYHL and EJEPL championships each season they played in those leagues; each time, coming up just short and earning second place.  This time was different as the Ducks entered the playoffs as the number one seed in the NJYHL Bantam A division.  The playoffs got off to a rocky start as the Ducks found themselves down in the quarterfinals to the NJ Penguins through half of the game.  The Ducks outshot the Penguins, who’s goalie played spectacularly, 66-24.  Key goals by Matthew Spano and Jeremy Wachtnacher ignited the Ducks back into the game at 2-2.  Failing on a 5-on-3 opportunity, the Ducks cashed in as the powerplay went to 5-on-4.  In the end, the Ducks proved to be too much for the Penguins in a 6-4 victory.

In the Semifinals, the Ducks had a rematch against a divisional foe in the Woodbridge Wolfpack.  Starting the game slow, the Ducks were outshot 14-6 in the first period, fortunately goalie Nick Alvin turned aside all Wolfpack opportunities to keep the game close.  Goals came quick after the 1-0 lead, with a 4-0 lead on a snipe from Shawn Yuhasz at the top of the circle to beat the Wolfpack goalie high.  The Ducks outlasted the Wolfpack 4-1 for the victory.

In the finals, the Ducks found themselves against an unfamiliar foe in the Brick Hockey Club.  At the drop of the puck, the Ducks were on their heels, spending most of the first period in their own zone and giving up a 0-2 lead to Brick off of rebound goals.  After regrouping, the Ducks got on the board with goals from Sean Fagan and Michael Tompkins to even the score at 2-2.  The Ducks vaulted into the lead with a goal from Sean Fagan.  Once again, outshot, the Ducks were able to hold off Brick and claim the championship with a 3-2 victory.
